Vilo Acuña International Airport (IATA: CYO, ICAO: MUCL) is located in Cayo Largo del Sur, which is part of the Isla de la Juventud Special Municipality in the Canarreos Archipelago, Cuba. It is operated by ECASA (Empresa Cubana de Aeropuertos y Servicios Aeronáuticos S.A.). It operates domestic flights and direct international flights from Canada, Argentina, Russia and Italy. The airport was built in 1995, and owes its name to Juan Vitalio Acuña Núñez, alias "Vilo", a peasant who fought during the Cuban Revolution. Santuario de tortugas marinas de Cayo Largo del Sur

Description

Within the conservation and protection programs of the natural resources in the Cayo Largo del Sur Tourist Pole, there is a program for the protection of sea turtles, in our destination three types of sea turtles reproduce between the months of April and September: Loggerhead, Green and Hawksbill turtles. The resort has a Turtle Hatchery located in the facilities of the Marina in the tourist town; among the conservation actions, nests are collected in the most vulnerable beaches and transferred to the hatchery where the eggs are incubated and once the turtles are born, they are released to their natural environment. In this tourist facility the clients will be able to appreciate and learn about the main characteristics of this species of sea turtles, such as habitat, reproduction, migrations, feeding, etc. The photos and filming are completely free of charge, so that visitors can take home a graphic testimony that can be used to promote the protection of these species.
